Earnest Ray Harris

Earnest ‘Ray’ Harris, 58, of Los Angeles, CA, a true visionary, a renaissance man, a proud Alumni at The University Of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Omicran Delta Kappa ODK Honor Society, an Orientation Advisor, on the Student Involvement Committee, a member of Tejas, Texas Cowboys (first black member) and UT Goodfellows. Earnest leaves behind a legacy work. At the time of his passing, he had been commissioned to write three new books. Earnest was also solidifying three movie deals, one of which had just been green lit. Earnest was so excited to share this good news the very day he passed. He was also still offering his PR genius skills to many clients, all of whom relied on him and trusted him to push their businesses and raise their profiles. Earnest launched Hollywood Blvd Magazine this year and was so proud of the Magazine. The Magazine, he felt and believed, was for anyone who, as he would say, “Dared to dream BIG!” Earnest also wrote for the Austin American Statesman, The Dallas Morning News, The Riverfront Times in St. Louis, The New Orleans Times-Picayune, Huffington Post, Industry Rules, The Philadelphia Inquirer, New York News Day, Hispanic Magazine, and was also the host of talk radio shows in Austin, TX and St. Louis. MO. Earnest was also a Woodrow Wilson Program instructor at The Lyndon Baines Johnson Graduate School for Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin. Earnest will be remembered for his bright beautiful smile, his liveliness, his boisterous laugh, and his brain power and even more incredibly his ability to see the good in all. Anyone who crossed paths with Earnest knew he was a man of great honor, integrity, and was so loyal to his family, his clients, his peers, and his acquaintances. Earnest loved motorcycle riding, playing polo and when he had wasn’t watching football, his favorite team the Saints, you would find sitting at his computer writing/working or reading scripts or catching up with up with his children, his true favorite pastime. Earnest, a devoted husband, wonderful father, uncle, son, friend and a Talent Manager, an award winning writer, movie producer, movie director, and publisher lived everyday with purpose and was on a mission to inspire everyone he could to be the very best one could be. Ever so sadly, abruptly, and without any warning at all, Earnest began having difficulty breathing while driving for Lyft on his shift the night of the September 26, 2019. This took place on the corner of Lexington and Pacific in Glendale. Thankfully the two passengers in his vehicle noticed that something was wrong and helped Earnest park his car. A passerby who happened to be an EMT specialist off duty took note of what was happening and rushed over and immediately began CPR on Earnest. An ambulance was dispatched at 9:21 pm to the location where Earnest was then transferred to Glendale Memorial Hospital and was worked on for more than two hours where he went into full cardiac arrest. Earnest translated from this world onto his next higher calling on September 26, 2019 at 11:34 pm. An autopsy was performed and the family was told Earnest had heart disease and should have been on a pace maker years ago. Which came as a shock because Earnest was also a marathon runner. He ran the LA Marathon twice and was looking forward to the next marathon. He was seen by a doctor a year ago because of his heart fluttering. His doctor performed a stress test and ran an EKG test then and Earnest was given a perfect bill of health. His doctor even commented that Earnest was in great shape for a man his age. Earnest is survived, by his beloved mother, Mary Harris, from Port Arthur, TX, sisters Tina Sims, Gwen Green, Michelle Williams, and brother Tim Harris. Stepmom Debbie LeBlue, sisters Candy Allison, Melody Barnes, Holly Harper, and brother, Andre Harper. Earnest, "Uncle Ray" had a blessing of many nieces and nephews he loved to be around. Earnest is also survived by wife of 26 years, Dianna Perales Harris, his children, Lawrence Antonio Harris, Maria Idalis Harris, Yvette Elaine Harris, and Jennifer Marie Vasquez. He is preceded in death by his father Lawrence Harris III, also from Port Arthur, TX, in whom he patterned his life after. Earnest was driving Lyft part time as he was also putting his two children through college at Arizona State University, and dear GOD did he ever love his Sun Devils! But nothing was more important to Earnest than being there for those he loved which was a plethora of people from all walks of life. He was truly admired, respected and loved beyond all one could imagine in one’s wildest of imaginations. Everyone who has heard of his passing and have reached out to his loved ones with so much care, comfort, prayers and support all agree - There will never be another Earnest ‘Ray’ Harris. The family would like to thank Lyft, the two Lyft riders, the EMT who helped, Glendale Memorial Hospital, LAPD, Glendale PD, Nikko Thomas, Karah Britton, Diane and Stephen Cooper, and Cindy and Ricardo Hernandez for all their love and support. And a very warm heartfelt thank you to the David Steward Family of St. Louis for their continued love, prayers, and kindness. May God Bless All! Due to his untimely passing, and his children still in college in Arizona and his siblings and family being so far away in Texas, his wife and children have opted to hold off on a Memorial Service until the family can all be together to honor Earnest, which he would have wanted.
